Apple has traditionally been dependent on software companies, most notably Microsoft Office and Adobe.

It seems to me this has been an invisible albatross around Jobs' neck. From my musings about Jobs' psychology this is something he hates with a passion. It's really held back his baby. I think in private he burns red about these companies.

It seems to me that Jobs is carefully but deliberately moving away from that model as much as he can without the software giants.

Apple is trying to supply low level software, with basic functionality for start up businesses, at lower prices. Which is smart.

Freeware and Cloud software are also moving people away from giant suites most of which is never used. Again modularity.

What small business can afford to buy CS4 at $1400 for cards and a web site then learn how to use them? Not too many.

The more people are weened off these albatrosses the better for Apple. Better yet if an iMac has everything you need to get started it pays for itself.
