>>>Even CRUS may want them<<<

< Tom, Give me one reason (just one) why Cirrus would want to buy S3?>

I don't know that CRUS would want then, but consider when a company starts to approach book value and has valuable assets (the FAB) and leading market share, takeover and merger possibilities drastically increase. This could mean one of the smaller companies (well, they're really all smaller) merging, such as 3-D Labs. This would give them a significant distribution network and access to bigger R&D dollars. It would give S3 high-end products that it needs.
