Commerce Business Daily - Nov 5 - US Secret Service intends to award a sole source contract to Western Identification Network for fingerprint database services. Sole source due to the fact that WIN is the sole automated fingerprint identification and search sytem for the states of Montana, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, and Oregon that provides interface access to the databases of California, Washington and Alaska.... system must be fully compatible with sytems currently in place and used by US Secret Service.

No price mentioned... not sure if IDX has any involvment. NEC and WIN have some sort of connection as shown at:

audionet.com

What this solicitation does show, however, is that the government is expecting the various systems and databases to be able to interact with one another or they will take the sole source route.

David,

Sorry about the down note on the 85 suitcases......but if you saw the 60 Minutes inteview with Alexander Lebved several weeks ago....I think you would be a little concerned also..He seemed serious to me....And the fact that the FBI arrested a couple of guys offering to sell one in Miami a couple of weeks ago does not help. The point was...... that the government serves as a protector as well as a tyrant.....and the balance of both depends upon the situation and how one percieves it.

Identity theft has been in a few articles out West also......More of a "look what is happening" slant right now...without alot of solutions being offered.......Time will take care of it.....It is a very interesting crime.

ps. Sears has a "sign here" deal.......it's hogwash....I have signed with an X before......no problem.
