Phil,
I don't think csco's earnings will affect asnd one way or the other, asnd is in a holding pattern right now. I'm a firm believer there is a deal in the works, coms,LU or bay but this is the perfect time for this to happen for Mory and whom ever he is in talks with. My guess is its LU and it will be a stock swap deal for around 40-45.

Phil:

Eventhough you did not ask me this ( how will CSCO's earnings effect ASND shortterm?), here is my take on it:

Based strictly on ASND's management's lack of credebility and sleezy/snoby attitude and the bad perception that has been generated by ASND's business over all:

If CSCO comes up with a great earnings report, ASND will either be staying here or will go down (most likely goes down). This will be based on the perception that CSCO is taking the market share away from ASND.

If CSCO comes up with a bad earnings report, ASND will either be staying here or will go down (most likely goes down). This will be based on the perception that the business is slowing and if CSCO can not meet or beat the expectations then how can ASND do it!

In either case ASND will be staying at these levels or most likely will go down! I want to dump my ASND shares but waiting for the idiotic rumors of a take over to start to take off and then be able to sell my shares at least a few points higher from these levels. ASND has been a very expensive lesson for me and will be my 1997 tax write off that I will remember for a long time!

Regards,
