OK. Independent Contractor. I actually have more ICs than I have employees. And I use exactly the same tactics, but harsher. If they don't perform, then I release them. If they are superstars, I offer them permanent employment at competitive packages.

No carrot-only approach to leadership works. We're seeing that now. And btw, what you're failing to acknowledge is that Obama is the leader of the Democratic Party. Reid and Pelosi are leaders of their houses. As such, it is incumbent on them to set the tone, offer the vision, and then crack the whip when they need to. So far, Obama and Reid have used more honey and have refused to crack the whip on their own party. That is why they are failing. Pelosi has gotten the job done in the House, because she's hard nosed.

Ironically, if Obama and Reid had cracked the whip on the Dems in the Senate, the Dem Senators would have been more likely to keep their jobs come November. But in failing to crack the whip, they've failed to get legislation passed and put those Senators at risk.
