It's kind of a truism that the Italian food in North Beach is very much for tourists. As far as North Beach goes, Tomasso's one of the best pizzas for sure, if not "the". Wood fired. Thin crust. Excellent quality toppings. Very traditional.

You know how things like taste go, though. It's all personal. If you look at that second link from "Yelp", you'll see many people agree that Tomasso's is worth the visit.

FWIW, it's tough to get decent Chinese food in Chinatown, too. <g>
