OECD league table showing budget deficits around the world as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). While the top two entries in the table will come as no surprise, Iceland at 15.7% and Greece at 12.7% it is the position of the UK (third place) at 12.6% which has laid bare the terrible financial impact which the downturn has had on the country’s finances.

It looks even more alarming when you consider that Ireland at 12.2%, Spain at 9.6% and Portugal at 6.7% are being spoken about in the same breath as Greece which is on the verge of economic collapse.

Anglos prepare a test scenario. Message 26331225

As you know with all the oil in S. Atlantic, the perfidous English are creating a test scenario to see how the interested parties react.

Something very, very odd happened today in the gold market.

The gold ETFs I track, GLD and IAU, closed down between .50 and .60 at precisely 3:00 PM Central Standard Time, indicating a 5-6 USD loss in POG. But Kitco's prices showed that gold was up by 6.60, more or less, at the same time.

Because the ETFs track gold and have the physical in their various caches, I don't know what to make of this. It is disturbing because it makes no sense. But it might be an opportunity to pick up gold at a bit of a discount.

Any thoughts?

Anyone?
