Not to pick nits, but where do you see teachers putting in only "25-28 hour workweeks"?

Also, the very fact that teaching positions in certain fields (e.g. upper level math and science) are in many places hard to fill suggests that salaries, because they are usually constrained to be the same as that of, say, a language arts teacher of the same experience and degree level, are less than the market-clearing rate.

I do, however, agree with your general point about the "underpaid and overworked" meme, so I'm not arguing with you so much as qualifying my agreement and cautioning against adopting an opposite meme.
