I understand what you are saying, but don't see how the issues to which you refer - regardless of their merits - would make their mark on one day's action.

The logical explanation for the anomaly yesterday is simple: selling of paper gold sent the price down but the buying of bullion sent it up.

The 'why?' is the hard part.

We might be seeing a divergence in the price of paper as opposed to bullion...paper is a lot easier to deal with so that may be the ultimate reason.
