Tobago, I'm sitting on my back porch with sun shining bright and my compooter on my lap. My house is paid off. (It's a small house, but warm). I've never made more than $45K a year. I don't work on Fridays. Haven't for years. I've climbed nearly every peak in the North Cascades. I've never been audited (never even met anybody that worked for the IRS). Never had the misfortune of being accused of any crime let alone arrested. Went to public schools. Went to a mediocre college. I've never felt for a moment that I was at the mercy of any master or Big Brother or police state or the fed or whomever else dances in your head.

America flirts with socialism and the capitalism and then some hybrid and then goes into the toilet and then rises again. Don't underestimate the American people. They will don the hair shirt if they have to.

I will give you one thing. The American tax system is a nightmare. A flat tax would be nice. And taxes are too high here. But somebody's got to bear the burden of keeping your ass safe. I'm old now. So I remember the world as it was. And you can bet your sweet bippy that good ol' Brazil was a gnats tooth away from speaking German. Your country was living under a dictatorship at the time and oh, what a coward he was. Brazil has come a long way, but don't kid yourself. You've got the Americans to thank for it then. And today as well. The old man is done lecturing, so carry on. And you are welcome. In advance, of course.
