Mish:

Your comments on Public Unions as a huge detriment to the US taxpayer are clearly spot on. Keep up the good work. Anyone that wants to see the problems of out of control public unions should try to travel in France when the transportation unions call for a strike. Reagan was right, fire them all. With 10% unemployment, there are lots of people who would love to have a job at these wages.

Mish;

I find your obsession with the evils of unions interesting. To first comment on the public unions; except at the federal level won't unions for the most part be self correcting as public money shrinks - and union employees be forced to give up some demands? In our state and at the local level the managers just fired the highest paying people saying there was no money - which was true. If taxes get too high people have the opportunity to vote to shrink or eliminate the taxes. California and Washington State have certainly done just that at the state level. However Washington State just voted to approve school levies on a local basis so they in effect voluntarily voted to tax themselves at a higher rate. The beneficiaries will be union school employees. Even as I voted against the tax, I still see nothing wrong with this especially since every person will share in this tax burden as a property tax increase - rich and poor. It's how it works in a democracy isn't it? But evil here? Hardly. What is evil is GS getting on average one half million dollar bonuses after being bailed out with tax money from those union teachers making 40K a year. How many teachers get one half million dollar bonuses? Clean it up at the top starting with GS and then maybe people will take a new look at unions - until then this argument is dead.

respectfully;
steve
