We now have an "elitist" public service which has through time increased job security and pensions, even when not merited, and erected ever higher barriers to competition for its jobs...There is no process in place to weed out non-performers and replace them with those on the outside who have equal or better qualifications and a desire/passion to contribute positively. Complacency and entitlement are the primary symptoms of our modern "public" disease that is destroying the roots of what was once a very competitive and innovative continent.
