Well, I consider myself centrist or Independent, because I no longer will vote for a party unless they have good ideas, and I'll vote for either party. What I do is I pick and choose policy positions from all parties. Below are most of the things I believe in and I've put the party that is typically associated with the position in parenthesis. You can see why I don't neatly fit into either party category.

* Pro-life; abortion is murder (GOP)
* Privatize social security (GOP)
* Protection for a church's right not to allow gay marriages in their church (GOP)
* Pro-nuclear power (GOP)
* Drill, baby, drill everywhere (GOP)
* Small government; I believe in that private industry is better at almost everything than the gov't (GOP)
* Cut taxes to small businesses (GOP)
* Pro-guns in general and for gun rights protection (GOP)
* Against stimulus dollars spent on welfare and tax rebates to individuals (GOP)
* Strongly against lending money to GM and financial firms to bail them out (GOP)
* Strongly against the myth of "Too Big to Fail"; I say let bankruptcy take care of those walking dead giants (GOP)

* Cut spending (neither party believes in this)
* Do not believe in nation building other countries (neither party believes as I do)
* I believe we need to let other countries defend themselves and withdraw most of our troops from abroad (neither party believes as I do)
* I believe in Immigration reform as Bush Jr envisioned it, but his own party rebelled against that and the Dems didn't like it either (neither party)

* For stimulus dollars spent on renewable energy investments, and science and tech R&D (Dem)
* Against machine guns and for very strong restriction on who can carry a gun (Dems)
* Raise taxes back to the 1990s levels to balance the budget(Dems)
* Substantial reform of health care (Dems)
* For the repeal of all exemptions from anti-trust laws in Health Industry (Dem)
* Renewable energy big push (Dems)
* Put a price on carbon and/or tax gas (Dems)
* Cut military spending (Dems)
* Close Guantanamo (Dems)
* Get us out of Iraq (Dems)
* Give gays federal recognition of civil unions, valid across all states (Dems)
* Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell and give gays protected minority status (Dems)
* I believe in a re-instatement of the Glass Steagal act and other financial industry regulatory reforms; in short I believe banking should be boring and should not act as a leach on our economy, nor cause catastrophic economic collapses as it just did (Dem)
* I believe in the PayGo rules (Dem)
