They only worked out because we grew our way out of the debt in a military spending binge and then a post WWII boom. Do you foresee anything on the horizon that equals either of those two major events to pull us out of our $12 trillion in debt? I don't. We can't keep piling on the debt and hoping beyond hope that a miracle will happen. It's time to sober up and make the hard choices now. And one of the things that's going to have to get cut and put on a sound footing is social security. Medicare is another one.
