JAMA Launches Women's Health Center Web Site

Grants from Ortho-McNeil, Advanced Care Products support new peer-reviewed resources

CHICAGO, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Journal of the American Medical Association today announced the launch of the
JAMA Women's Health Information Center on the World Wide Web (http://www.ama-assn.org/women), the latest in a
series of condition-specific sites being developed under the Journal's auspices.

The site is being launched with two modules supported by unrestricted educational grants from Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical
and Advanced Care Products, one on contraception (http://www.ama-assn.org/contraception) and the other on sexually
transmitted diseases (http://www.ama-assn.org/std). Both will be produced and maintained by JAMA editors and feature a
regularly updated collection of peer-reviewed resources. Additional modules may be added in the future.

These sites join the award-winning JAMA HIV/AIDS Information Center, launched in 1995, and two other sites, on asthma
and migraine, launched this spring.

The JAMA sites offer physicians, other health professionals and the general public up-to-date, easy-to-use, high-quality
clinical information, news, educational material, support resources and more. They are produced by JAMA staff, with content
review and overall site guidance provided by editorial panels made up of leading specialists.

''This wonderful new technology provides us with a unique opportunity to make new, high-quality medical information on a
wide range of women's health issues available quickly to physicians and consumers,'' said George D. Lundberg, MD, Editor
of the Journal of the American Medical Association and Editor-in-Chief of the AMA's Scientific Information and Multimedia
Group. ''We are pleased to be able to participate with Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical and Advanced Care Products in
bringing this collection of highly useful and relevant resources to those who can benefit from it.''

The JAMA women's health site will provide frequently updated news reports; expert-reviewed collections of the most recent
and relevant reports from the medical literature, along with clinical commentary and selected full-text articles; practice
guidelines and other treatment information; a selected compendium of resources designed to help patients; and a reviewed
listing of related Internet sites. Information about Ortho-McNeil, Advanced Care Products, and their products also will be
available in a separate area. All information is available free of charge.
