In the US since the 80's relentless pursuit of economic efficiency, globalization and financial "innovation" has only widened the gap between rich and poor.

It certainly has with regard to executive compensation.

I personally don't like this "rock star" mentality we have in business leaders. Too much like Hollywood for me.

Now.. entrepreneurial "rock stars" I can handle, if they've developed something truly innovative that increase productivity or improves our standard of living.

But Bankers making money churning their trading accounts is not something I find to be contributing to bettering human existence.

But what I truly lament is the lack of vision that's evident in the US. We have space shuttle launches that only attract attention if something catastrophic occurs. Science all seems to be focused upon "doomsayer" scenarios and telling us how bad humanity is treating the planet.

Maybe that's why I would like to see the US take the lead again and do something visionary and bold. And I would be fine to have it be a joint effort, perhaps with China and Russia both.

Something other than sitting here wallowing in our self-pity, hopelessness, and cynicism (and I'm one of those overly inclined to cynicism).

Enough of my whining.. ;)
