Brumar, I understand your argument, but I just don't believe it. Gays aren't asking for civil rights just to drive Christians out of child welfare services. They are asking for civil rights so that they can be treated just like you and me.

I think it is the Christians who are wrong on this issue. Eventually science is going to catch up with this issue and science will tell us that being gay is not a choice, but an outcome of that person's chemical or genetic makeup. When everyone finally accepts that as true, it would become obvious that it is very wrong for anyone to penalize someone for being gay, just as it is wrong to discriminate against women or blacks. You don't discriminate against someone for being born the way they are.

If Jesus were alive today, he'd want everyone to be treated equally and for everyone to love one another. I am continually shocked by how intolerant Christians are, when they are supposed to be Jesus' followers. They aren't living up to his spirit at all.
