i don't think so Jim. in general, we aren't involved enough at the grassroots level. the people with passion and an agenda get the people they want in, elected in the primaries. that way it doesn't matter who wins the general elections, because by that time all the candidates are 'their guys'.

hopefully, this is going to change in 2010. more people that have never been involved before are vetting the primary candidates.

it may have been a lack of paying attention to the whole process, rather than lack of intelligence. we'll know in november..
