It ain't going to happen. Small government probably isn't going to happen, but it definitely won't happen without arguing for it, and arguing for it is hardly painful, or harmful. It at least can work to slow the future growth of government. Yes, you don't want the gov't to grow helter skelter "That's what it has been doing." How so? The budget deficits are about the same size as the budget from not all that long ago, and those budgets where in turn far larger in inflation adjusted terms than earlier budgets. And its not just in terms of spending, regulation increases more and more every year.
