And I don't think the whole thing was time wasted at all. That's something I can't tell yet. And we may have different ideas as to how to measure the outcomes. Obama's appearance before the Rep caucus was something one could immediately judge. It was an over the top performance. This will be more nuanced. Lots of levels: (1) whether it brings the Dems together, particularly in the House where there may not be enough votes; (2) are perceptions of the political parties on these issues changed by today? (probably not, but who knows); (3) will Dems and Reps work together on anything--extremely unlikely; (4) is the Senate more like to move to reconciliation--probably yes. Interesting times.
