Do you remember last summer, perchance? Max Baucus and his gang of 6? Of which 3 were Republicans? Right in the middle of that, Sarah Palin picked up the "death panel" line from Betsy McCaughey, and Baucus was pretty much doomed. The Democrats should have been able to get around that, the whole "death panel" thing was such transparent garbage right from the start, but I was continually amazed how many Republicans picked up on it. I don't think the Democrats are ever going to figure out a way to get around the Fox News noise machine. Any line the Republicans put out gets hammered into the ground relentlessly, for weeks at a time, regardless of how dubious the factual basis is.
