Geographically, we're the safest major power on Earth, threatened by land invasion only by Canada and Mexico. Anyone else will need the greatest amphibious assault ever mounted - with no hope of surprise. It's basically impossible. There's no rhyme or reason to the amount we spend on defense. The defense industry has made sure that their production is well spread around - so, pretty much every pol but the president has to be a defender of the status quo. For the JOBS! For the economy of their state or district. But most Americans have NO IDEA how much we spend compared to everyone else. The press and the pols NEVER make it an issue. I've never heard the MSM "liberal" press report a comparison in my lifetime. globalissues.org Ask random people you know how much they think we spend compared to China and Russia.
