Yup and we saw how that went with the banking industry didn't we?

It was the absence of regulation in that case. Moreover, it's hard to make a case that regulation that adheres to the industry's interests is worse than no regulation. Same thing, best I can tell. Unless you wish to make a different argument. And that's the one that says the regulation caused the crash. Most serious observers feel it was the absence.
