<<<So I think that monopoly utilities have their place but I struggle to apply that paradigm to health care>>>

How come all the best health care on earth are in countries that operate health care like monopolies wrt universal access (eg, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Swedan, Finland, Japan, Taiwan, Ireland, Austria, Austrailia, Singapore, Luxembourg, etc)?

Can you provide examples of a different paradigm that works?

By the way, the Internet was a concept that came out of and implemented by DARPA.

There is something to what you say with regard to the innovation aspect being diminished. The reason drug companies spend all this money time and effort to bring a product to market is the huge reward for them if they do find a "wonder" drug.

Don't know how exactly we would keep the pipeline flowing if we are going to limit that profit (by controlling prices).

Maybe if we took the best of both the private and public models and tried to blend them together, but haven't got all the details down. Think it would be worth studying by the government and think tanks.

Only one question comes to mind how does one play competitive prices with vultures battling for competition.
