Because it's well known that FIgure skating judging is biased to those who are supposed to win, as ranked going into the Olympics. There was a big scandal back in 2002 which resulted in some judges being thrown out of the sport. I see, but similar ones are back. Kim was good but left out some jumps. OK she had a good program good enough for gold but....
Asada and Rochette didn't skate clean at all. Nagasu did and was scored lower. She was 10 points better than Asada and Rochette but they were "supposed to be silver and bronze".

Flatt skated clean and actually lost a place.
