Middle classes are sucked by both ends. Elroy is right: Poor people get lots of assistance programs that could be sustained only a high growth economy. Once the economy is not longer growing, the only way to keep the assistance programs in place is to rob someone, being in the middle, the middle class is robber from both end: super rich above , poor class below. Assistance programs cannot be shaved off because politicos will lose votes, Thus prefer to shave off middle class.
