We cannot treat any of the social sciences like engineering a bridge. The models, no matter how clever they've been crafted, will eventually fail.

Right now, we are witnessing the failure of the model which claims that increased governmental borrowing and spending will "jump start" the economy. As traders would say, this approach may work during pullbacks, but not when the trend is ready for a major correction or reversal.

By the time our big thinkers re-adjust their models and "re-educate" the politicians, we're liable to lose our shirts. It takes a lot of very smart and educated people to brew up some really serious trouble.

It seems what works best is when people (esp. government) stick their noses into other people's business the least.
