I cannot say for certain. My testing wasn't conclusive.

I disconnected all my internal drives and connected an external enclosure with USB. The enclosure contained a Western Digital drive.

I booted from the WD Edition of Acronis CD. It couldn't see my external drive and issued an error message. I had two choices: watch it do nothing forever or re-boot.

I do not have any disks from another manufacturer that can boot my system. If I did, I could perform this test. . .

Boot Windows from a non-WD disk.
Install Acronis True Image, WD Edition.
Connect my external enclosure containing a Western Digital drive.
Run True Image WD Edition and see if the external WD drive qualifies.

Plan "B". . .

My laptop doesn't have a WD disk. I tried to install the WD edition of True Image on it and it refused, issuing an error message that it couldn't find any WD drives.

After connecting my external enclosure with the WD drive inside to my laptop's USB port, the WD edition of True Image began to install without complaint.
