In downtown Toronto, where I live, there is a forest of construction, condominiums, office buildings. The city is collecting its taxes and can expect more income when all those
buildings are finished and tenanted. It's difficult to make a
case, on the ground, for Toronto's bankruptcy. I remember New York was in deep trouble about 30-40 years ago. New York city recovered since then. The right wing central government is squeezing Ontario which in turn tries to squeeze Toronto. But where do they put the new research institutes? Right near to
the Ontario Government buildings. Everybody and his brother wants to live and operate in the city. That's where all the headquarters are. Of course HongKong, London, Paris, Tokyo are
even more enormous power centers. I can't believe that any of
them will go bankrupt. The suburbs of Toronto are quite a different story.
