A commission (even the stronger earlier idea for one) does not equal, imply, or necessarily even suggest a strong concern about deficits, or any likelihood of getting deficits under control.

A commission of the type Obama is proposing is not necessary and is FAR from sufficient to control deficits. Even the strongest of the ideas (that made it in to bills or presidential proposals) for a deficit commission would at best be a minor assist in the effort.

I give Obama's actual past record, and his proposals for future big government, more weight on this question than his support for the commission.

The White House picks its most frequent visitor to sit on its deficit commission. He believes in big government, in big spending, and that the workers of the world should unite. What could go wrong?
