That level of concentration isn't all that rare. How many manufacturers of large jet liners are there?

LOL jet liners are not exactly mass consumer products.

Also to the extent competition is low enough to be a problem, it became that way in the context of an increasingly regulated industry, and in the context of discussions about adding a lot more regulation. Perhaps piling on more regulation and government control isn't the answer.

I'm not ever sure it's a lot more regulation.... maybe just different regulation. Right now you have 50 regulating bodies.

I was thinking about how we regulate beef. USDA Grades of Beef. There are 8 Grades: Prime, Choice, Select, Standard, Commercial, Utility, Cutter and Canner.

Now obviously when we regulate beef, rancid meat or meat that will make you sick because of chemicals or something are not allowed to be sold. Same should be true of insurance that doesn't work... can be canceled on an insurance company whim. Then maybe you subsidize the other policies at the low end and tax the policies on the high end on a sliding scale. And do that on a national basis... and yes allow cross state border sales on a National Exchange with very specific comparisons of all aspects of the policies.

I don't know, just thinking out loud.
