Tsunami effects are highly dependent on topographic variations, so I'd be cautious about drawing conclusions based on the lack of impact in Peru.

I think the media over-hyped the warning. The Pacific-wide alert was for a relatively mild surge in the range of 1 meter or so and such effects did occur at long distances, such as 0.8 meter surges recorded in exposed parts of Alaska and Kamachatka.

Anchorage has low vulnerability to tsunamis, so I mostly ignore these warnings.
