Well, THAT'S THE ISSUE that I started with!

And that's the only issue in this debate that interests me


If your going to talk about the issue by raising an argument and someone discusses that argument, its unreasonable to tell people to stick to the larger issue.

Unless your only addressing the larger issue in the most simplistic terms, your going to have to discuss a lot of related issues and ideas. When they come up they get discussed, doing so is not failing to stick to the issue.

And the hit to the taxpayers for the taxpayer-guaranteed DEPOSITS being put at risk when the mega-sized institutions engage in high risk financial activities.

Proprietary training is not necessarily high risk, and even high risk (when considered in isolation) proprietary trading, can reduce overall risk, if its portion of the banks overall exposure is sufficiently small. Done in such a way as to reduce risks, it reduces the exposure of the taxpayers to taking a hit.
