It seems to me that an important key lies in the definition of "stewardship". I think it's clear that stewardship is our job (the lessons, for example, of Genesis 1 and the parable of the talents).

It's also probably equally clear that most of us don't take that challenge of true stewardship all that seriously.

As a matter of definition, you can't be a steward of anything you own.

Hmmmm.

If we can get straight who the Owner is, then we can focus on how best to make use of and grow what we've been entrusted with, whatever it is, and in whatever quantity (and according to our particular unique combination of abilities). Oh yeh, and I'm just guessing, you understand, but I imagine one part of being a good steward is maybe staying in touch with the Owner so we have some idea of what He wants done with His stuff, and also have a clue when we've gotten off track.
