What state mandates?

Here is yet another post on Republican alternatives to a government takeover:

It mentions the concept being discussed.

Each state has a list of coverages that must be provided for an insurance policy written in the state. Massachusetts has the most expensive insurance in the nation because they have the most expensive mandates.

Interstate sales of insurance would allow insurance companies to taylor policies to consumers wishes rather than the coverages mandates. Mandates are typically things resulting from industry lobbying. For instance I will be unlikely to ever use Chiropractic care whether a policy covers it or not. Why should I be forced to pay for it?
