Tons of people ride Amtrak every day.

A friend of mine rode one months ago, he said there were 5 other people in the car besides his family.

Like I said not all runs are popular. The popular runs have dual track and have good on time records, and run at speeds above the speed of a freight car.

They don't make a profit with government support.

That's right. No mass transit is profitable.....IN THE WORLD......without gov't subsidy. That includes airlines and cars.

IMO they should scrap it. Or just run those few lines you mentioned and others that do make a profit. In fact if they make a profit then they don't need government aid.

The best Amtrak line only makes 80% of its operating costs from fares. Pretty typical of mass transit.
