What I think it means is that the people on record will be able to vote for the split. Thats all.

in splits the stk holder of record means nothing..
if you buy it the day before the split then you get it.
the record date just menas who the cert. will be mail to...then if that person doesn't own it..they may it back.
you are in on the split right now./

Someone may have already answered your question, but if they haven't:
The only stockholders who may vote on the split are those who are owners of record on Oct 30. Anyone who owns the stock at the end of the day of the split will get the split. If you buy or sell between now and then, it won't make any difference.

Not true...when it splits every shareholder as of the split date gets more stock...I am sure it has to do with a proxy vote.
