That mind set, that there was no difference in how blacks were treated in the north, and the south, is exactly why segregation and racism persisted in the south. Any black person will tell you there is a difference! >>we actually really need to deal with race in this country, and we don't do it by old white men outside the south carrying on about them backward southern people while 100's of thousands of black men in NYC are harrassed on the streets, while nooses are set up on campuses in California and 10's of thousands of their black people are sent to jail for next to no reason. You can't take the mote out of the eye while covering yer ass talking about nother... let us deal with it. let us change the policy in NYC. let us change the sentencing laws in CA. let us make a true start to building all people in this country. and I don't know about you, but I the people I know actually are informed. Those white guys outside the South criticizing southern people I believe are trying to divert attention from the problems in their own backyards. Having said that, I think you're a bit defensive on this topic. Most white folks I know in the North rarely mention the South and any racial problems it might or might not have. Its a non topic. and I don't know about you, but I the people I know actually are informed. Then how did GW Bush get elected twice? Maybe the first time....but the second time?? I don't get it.
