SUBPRIME MORTGAGE CRISIS HITS WHOREHOUSES

I know what they could do: Sell them to the government.

I know of an establishment with 14 fully carpeted bedrooms that the US Forest Service bought. It is no longer profitable as they razed it to the last nail.

The only part that remains is its name, "Maggie's Bend", which still identifies a certain reach of the Clearwater River in Idaho (check any USGS map of the area, or Google "Maggie's Bend, Idaho")

When I was working in that area they changed the name to "Betty's Steam Bath". Every fall I would see a 4x4 truck or two in the parking lot with a big bull elk spread-eagled in the back end waiting for its killers to finish celebrating their legendary prowess.

They used to pass out matchbooks with the phone number on the back and (supposedly) one of the girls pictured on the front. Sometimes I would see a couple of them sunbathing on the rocks next to the river.
