Christians, acting on and in the name of their Christian values, where a driving force behind the end of legal slavery in the more advanced richer countries.

Which hardly implies that Christianity was necessary to end slavery (just that it helped cause it to end sooner), or that it was the only force behind the end (it certainly was not).
