ElM, while it isn't the actual cultural norm that one eats, one does eat the results of cultural norms. <You don't eat cultural norms >

Those with low level cultural norms, which would not be out of place in a chimpanzee village, will eat like chimpanzees. Meaning not at all if they are on the tribal fringe and unable to find sources of food, especially if they are eaten by a leopard.

Those of us with VVV cultural norms have passed through the 3 stages of feeding:

How will we eat
What will we eat
Where shall we eat

and have arrived at the top of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Shooting people in the back and robbing them is a valid way of life, and such predators have struggled for survival since teeth were invented, doing quite well in limited unimaginative kind of way. Mosquitoes, fleas and bacteria are still prolific. H5N1 or similar could yet put paid to 80% of humanity in a year or two.

Such predation can only work while there are victims to consume. The high end of humanity lives by intellectual creativity, producing wealth from thin air and cultural norms. Brewing ethanol from sugar is a 19th century way of life, suitable for some. Working in factories for low prices is another. Digging trenches to install fibre is yet another.
