I saw an article today about INTC developing a stripped down version of the PII that will redefine the low-end. Eliminates the L2 cache and some other stuff. I don't recall the pricepoint, though. I tried to link to the article, but the connections are really slow now.

This is intriguing, considering that my 18 month old office computer is only a 100 MHz pentium with a 1 GB HD and 16 MB RAM. It does have a decent monitor (only 15", though), but it cost my employer considerably more than $1K. Amazing how performance per $ has come down!
