What a POS car. He would have to stay two days in a hotel to charge his car. Costing him money and burning fossil fuels since I doubt he would find many hotels using solar power for their outlets. And he can only go around 200 miles a day ? shit it would cost him a small fortune to drive to Chiacgo like he said he does and about 2 weeks of time, basically staring at hotel walls

So a 54 kwh battery can take you about 250 miles fully charged. But at the end of that you need to be back home so you can charge it up. In theory, you could drive it 125 miles away from your house but that would be cutting it close. Best to limit your distance to have a safety factor.

You could drive to anywhere in the Puget Sound area, Mt Rainier, Olympic Peninsula. Vancouver BC maybe. Portland OR would be out of the question. Unless you can stay somewhere you can charge it before returning.


Well locally for 98% of my driving it's no problem. Actually in Seattle, Portland and other cities on the west coast there are special parking places being put in where you can park for free and get free electricity! Such a gift. Plus you can drive in the car pool lane by yourself where normally there would have to be at least two people in the car.

And it would take a day and a half of solar energy from your pv to fully charge the car if its close to having no charge.

Course, I presume your solar pv has other tasks to perform than just charging the Tesla.


If I totally drained it. But since I'm retired I don't drive every day so charging it up is no problem off of PV. You can put a 7KW array in for about $22,000 before credits if you do it yourself. It's nice to have a guaranteed source of electrons, especially when the grid goes down.
