The counterproof is obvious. Obama said that without that slush fund called "stimulus," unemployment would have gone to 9%, implying that it would have been disasterous." Umm, Tenchu, it is disastrous. For every job that opens, there are 6 unemployed people looking. If it wasn't for the stimulus you like to disparage, those people would be losing houses, living on the street, etc. Instead of having at least some money to spend to get the economy off of its knees and into something like recovery. Apparently because people have jobs, they are inured to the problems many people are experiencing during this recession. The lower strata of this society which made tremendous economic progress during the Clinton administration have seen all that progress slip away. And then there is the middle class who have suffered the worst pain since at least the Reagan recession if not since the Great Depression. Its they who are losing homes in great numbers. I hope this attitude among conservatives comes from having jobs and seeing minimal changes in their lifestyle. I would hate to find out their behavior is motivated by their partisan ideology; that they really believe the vast majority are collecting unemployment because they don't wnat to work.
