Hey Peter,
btw, when Obama said 57 states, what he really meant was 57 electoral contests in the primaries. Everyone who listened to him say that understood that electoral contests was what he meant. But as always, political pundits love to have their fun.

Also, your comment on the political malaise still being here in 2012, I think you are wrong. We're already on a very sharp economic rebound. The growth rate of the recovery will throttle back by summer time, but the recovery is here and undeniable. Don't listen to me, though, read up on ECRI. They are the most trusted voice in economic turning points among people in the know.

My worry though is that we purchased the recover with new debt and unsustainable deficits. Inflation is coming along with this recovery. They are going to have to keep ahead of inflation with increased Fed rates, which means GDP growth will throttle back to 1-2% over the next couple of years and won't be enough to bring the unemployment figure back down to the 5-6% range. I think we'd better get used to 10% unemployment as a permanent feature of our economic landscape, unless we find some new, massive growth industry to grow our way out of this mess (like renewable energy).
