brian, you didn't listen to what i said. first, their costs will never get under control to support their current stock price. why? b/c prices on pcs are dropping faster than they can reduce costs. cpq and dell are predatory.

as for marketing, i said consumer AND corporate. their consumber marketing is ok. their corporate marketing is slightly above pathetic.

their units grew 30% and they had a huge build up of inventory. cpq unit growth was 66% higher - 50% - and they had no inventory issues.

if 66% faster unit growth constitutes good marketing then 40% less unit growth sucks. these facts bare out EXACTLY what i said. get the facts before you call people liers. a cute box and nice music on a commercial doesn't make good marketing.

btw, they are still 50% over the sweet spot pricing in computing.

they aren't even competitive.

Are you really 15?

I am often surprised at the immaturity some of the older members of SI, and their lack of foresight in selecting stocks. I can also identify more with posters who use their real name rather than some cute handle like "Stock Wienie".

I fondly remember the situation in early '96 when DELL was a bargain due to similar concerns that GTW has today. Made me a bundle then, and hoping to do the same again. It's not how much money you have today that counts, it's how much you have tomorrow. I think many people learned that last week.

Michael Dell has no more talent than Ted Waitt. It just happens that DELL is the catbird seat at the moment,

I actually appreciate all the negative sentiment on this thread lately. It just means the recovery will be that much more substantial when it happens.

Keep the faith.
