Pass Obamacare, and the Republican ideal of limited government will be compromised forever. Democrats may lose in the short-term, but they'll gain in the long-term because the political climate will forever be shifted to the left. Excellent observation. That is exactly what I have been trying to articulate, but Steyn has said it much more succinctly. Thx for posting that. So from a strategic political perspective, the Dems course of action is devastatingly clear. Pass Obamacare. From the GOP perspective, they need to continue to delay and block passage. That is my assessment. As far as the bipartisanship, you are correct. Dems blame the GOP and the GOP blame the Dems. I remember posting on these threads how pissed off I used to be at "Do Nothing Daschle". Now we have the "Do Nothing GOP", which I've posted about in frustration. But turnabout is fair play. Both parties have created the partisan atmosphere. Obama has played his part, although I think he honestly believed he could bring the country together when he took office, only to find out that the partisan divide is so wide that his charm and personal celebrity had no hope of breaching the divide, not to mention that his policies are antithetical to what the GOP believes. Having said all that, if I were Obama, I'd publicly continue to talk about bipartisanship and then non-publicly focus on getting my agenda passed and bipartisanship be damned. That's the only strategy that will work and keep his Dem constituency happy. Otherwise, the Dems lose power. It's pretty much that simple.
