He made a brutal decision, he decided to live without antidepressants, that were having bad side effects and stated he would rather commit suicide than return to ADs.
He was a true clinical depression battler dor decades, and when it slipped heavily back overhim he kept to his decision, he refused to take ADs, that he didn't want to keep himself alive with a lot of weird ADs in him---that he produced what he did do in his life was a miracle, he was known to be afflicted with severe depressions as early as 19.Max
He left carefully placed on a table under a light before his body, his last completed, fully rewritten manuscript which maybe 50-70 % complete--it will be published.Max Subject, best i can make out it is a study of the predicament of boredom, his central character an acccountant for the IRS--egad!:)

IJ is indeed terrific. I am still reading it for the first time. I can only imagine the discussions Wallace had with his editor about its length.

I liked his essays, too. The one about his visit to the Vegas porn convention was fabulous as was the one on lobsters.
