This country would be far better off economically over the long run if we substituted nuclear for coal and natural gas/electric hybrid cars for gasoline cars.

The very long run maybe, I might even say probably (except that some other forms of energy than fission and natural gas might turn out to be the right solution). But maybe not, I don't think anyone (including myself) has the ability to determine whats better for the economy in the long run better than the operations of the market.

But in the very long run we will use other sources of energy, whether or not we have large government energy programs now or in the near future. You don't need big government to get us there. A crash course for some particular alternate solution is likely to make us worse off economically.
