I assume that the Tax Policy Center is mixing Social Security taxes with income taxes...and even then, the numbers are suspect.

Actually, as I recall, they reflect all federal, state, and local taxes. Which would, certainly, include social security. And, I assume, medicare.

Your dismay at this is, of course, hardly my own reaction. I continue to be amazed that views like this could persist. You simply cannot govern a modern state with Ayn Rand views. Well, without bringing the house down. Almost literally.

The great shame is the continuing notion that the government is the problem; and thus cannot be a source of solutions. Reagan is the prime culprit here.
